Basic information about Mobic (Meloxicam)

Mobic (Meloxicam) is drug used to cure rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and juvenile arthritis.

Mobic (Meloxicam) works by blocking certain substances in the body that are linked to inflammation. It is a NSAID.

Before taking Mobic (Meloxicam), tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines:

  • cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune);
  • a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);
  • lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid);
  • aspirin or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as diclofenac (Voltaren), etodolac (Lodine), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), ketoprofen (Orudis), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), and others.
  • glyburide (DiaBeta, Micronase);
  • an ACE inhibitor such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), or trandolapril (Mavik); or
  • steroids (prednisone and others);
  • methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall);
  • diuretics (water pills) such as furosemide (Lasix);

Warnings and Precautions about Mobic (Meloxicam)

If you have a history of serious diseases, you need to call your pharmacist prior to accepting Mobic (Meloxicam).

Every patient should necessarily understand that every medication is able to lead to side effects if it is taken by wrong schedule, or you are hypersensitive to it.

Possible side effects are:

Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome:

  • gas, trouble sleeping, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dizziness, heartburn, stomach upset, constipation.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these severe side effects occur:

  • yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual joint or muscle pain, chest pain, numbness of an arm or leg, fainting, unusual tiredness or weakness, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, trouble breathing, swelling of the mouth face lips or tongue, tightness in the chest, hives.) , change in the amount of urine produced, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, depression, ringing in the ears, fever chills or persistent sore throat, seizures, severe headache or dizziness, mental or mood changes, swelling of hands legs or feet, severe vomiting, bloody or black tarry stools, fast or irregular heartbeat, confusion, red swollen blistered or peeling skin, one-sided weakness, severe or persistent stomach pain or nausea, vision or speech changes, sudden or unexplained weight gain, dark urine, unusual bruising or bleeding, shortness of breath.

Do not use Mobic if:

  • you have recently had or will be having bypass heart surgery;
  • you have a peptic ulcer;
  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Mobic;
  • you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy.
  • you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, trouble breathing, growths in the nose, dizziness) to aspirin or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (eg, ibuprofen, celecoxib);
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Important :
  • Do not take more than the recommended dose or use for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
  • Lab tests, including kidney function, complete blood cell counts, and blood pressure, may be performed while you use Mobic . These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Do not take aspirin while you are using Mobic unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
  • Mobic is an NSAID. Before you start any new medicine, check the label to see if it has an NSAID (eg, ibuprofen) in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Use Mobic with caution in the elderly; they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially stomach bleeding and kidney problems.
  • Caution is advised when using Mobic in children; they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially diarrhea, fever, headache, stomach pain, and vomiting.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Mobic may cause harm to the fetus. Do not use it during the last 3 months of pregnancy. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Mobic while you are pregnant. It is not known if Mobic is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Mobic.
  • Mobic should be used with extreme caution in children younger than 2 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been determined.
