Recent Question about
Sinemet

My husband is in an assisted living facility where the staff manage his meds. He's just been prescribed sinemet. The doctor said it's very important that he take the medication at 6 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. (I had told her that meals are around 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.). The med tech brought his first pill at 6:30 p.m. after we had had dinner and I said no, the orders are for 6 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m and the neurologist was insistent that it had to be taken exactly as she directed. The med tech took the pill away and was going to call the nurse in charge to make sure, but she also told me that "to be honest, the pills aren't going to be on that exact a schedule". My question: HOW IMPORTANT IS IT? is it the TIME, or the INTERVAL, or the fact that it's BEFORE MEALS, or WHAT? Please help.

Should sinemet be increased by someone with Parkinsons when physical activity is increased--as with a diabetic?
Qpills Answer
Generally it should not be increased. But you can ask your doctor because he may find some symptoms that it should.

Qpills Answer
The patient should be informed that Sinemet CR is a sustained-release formulation of carbidopa-levodopa which releases these ingredients over a 4- to 6-hour period. It is important that Sinemet CR be taken at regular intervals according to the schedule outlined by the physician.
